How EPF Calculator Works
Employee Provident Fund (EPF) is a government-backed retirement savings scheme. Both employer and employee contribute 12% of basic+DA each month. Out of employer's 12%, 8.33% (capped at โน1,250) goes to EPS (pension), rest to EPF account. EPF earns 8.25% annual interest (FY 2024-25), compounded yearly.
EPF Contribution Structure
| Contribution | Employee | Employer |
| EPF Account | 12% of (Basic+DA) | 3.67% of (Basic+DA) |
| EPS Pension | 0% | 8.33% (max โน1,250/month) |
| EDLI Insurance | 0% | 0.50% (max โน75/month) |
| EPF Admin | 0% | 0.50% |
| Total to EPF | 12% | ~3.67% |
Note: EPS contribution capped at salary ceiling of โน15,000/month, hence employer EPS = max โน1,250. Above โน15,000 salary, full 12% employer contribution goes to EPF (subject to settlement).
EPF Calculation Formula:
Year-end Balance = (Opening Balance + Yearly Contributions) ร (1 + Interest Rate)
Yearly Contribution = (Employee + Employer EPF share) ร 12 months
Final Corpus = Compounded balance till retirement
Example Calculation
Scenario: Age 30, Retire at 58, Basic โน50,000, Current EPF โน2L, 8% hike, 8.25% interest
Year 1 contribution = โน50,000 ร 12 ร (12% + 3.67%) = โน94,020
Year 1 Balance = (โน2,00,000 + โน94,020) ร 1.0825 = โน3,18,396
... compounds for 28 years with 8% salary growth ...
Projected Corpus at 58 = โน2.5+ Crores
